Angel Comedy at The Bill Murray is the place to go for a night of laughter in June

Angel Comedy at The Bill Murray is fast becoming the place to go for a night of comedy.

The club in Islington, which won the 2017 Chortle Award for Best Small Venue, offers multiple comedy shows every night of the week, with many just £5 or even free to enjoy.

Next months highlight include Tony Law and Friends, who will provide a magical read through of something funny that will turn into a bigger and definitely more dangerous thing at a later date. The friends are to be confirmed but hairy comedian Adam Larter might be involved.

You can also join Andrew Maxwell for his Edinburgh preview. Renowned for his cutting edge comedy and intrepid social commentary, Andrew is also the recognisable voice of MTV’s hit show Ex On The Beach, which is now in its sixth series.

June’s programme also includes star of hit shows ‘What Would Beyonce Do?!’ and ‘Am I Right Ladies?!’ Luisa Omielan and “The King of Edinburgh” (the List) Richard Herring.

Adam Kay brings his Fingering a Minor on the Piano show to the Soho Theatre

Following a critically acclaimed total sell-out season in April, Adam Kay will make his highly anticipated return to London’s Soho Theatre when he performs his Fingering a Minor on the Piano show to the venue next week.

In this brand new collection of wonderfully off-kilter music and stand-up, Adam is in reflective mood – taking a look back at his former job as a hospital doctor. At a time when junior doctors have rarely been out of the papers, the man who brought the world the iconic London Underground Song tells personal and painfully funny stories about his career and his decision to hang up his white coat six years ago.

Amateur Transplants frontman Adam has built up a fan base the size of which most comedians would happily sell their kidneys for. With sell-out tours and nine sell-out Edinburgh Fringe seasons, his cutting-edge, darkly humorous re-imaginings of modern day pop and rock classics have gained him a cult following throughout the UK.

Adam Kay is a versatile comedy writer and performer, whose work spans narrative and sketch for TV, stage and radio including BBC1, BBC2, BBC3, Radio 4 and Channel 4. He also works as a script editor and gag writer and collaborates with a number of well-known comedy acts. Recent credits include his original comedy series, Crims, co-written with Dan Swimer, for the BBC, Very British Problems, Flat TV, The Now Show and Mongrels and is also a regular voice on The Now Show. Adam started out life as a doctor but after a brief medical career, he swapped his white coat for a microphone. He fronted the popular musical comedy act Amateur Transplants, whose iconic London Underground Song had over 10 million hits on iTunes. Amateur Transplants have produced four number one albums in the iTunes comedy charts and won a 2014 London Cabaret Award.

Adam Kay will bring his Fingering a Minor on the Piano show to Soho Theatre from 18 – 20 May.

Scott Gibson brings his sold-out Edinburgh Festival Fringe show, Life After Death, to Soho Theatre

Following a sell-out season earlier this year, Award-winning Scottish comic Scott Gibson brings his critically-lauded, sold-out Edinburgh Festival Fringe show, Life After Death, to Soho Theatre this Month.

Scott Gibson’s Life After Death tells the tale of the three weeks that changed his life forever. One summer, he returned from his friend’s stag weekend in Blackpool and his brain exploded – he had suffered a massive brain haemorrhage. So, Scott did what any self-respecting Glaswegian man would do: he went back to bed and slept for 4 days.

A darkly hysterical show about overcoming insurmountable odds, Gibson’s Edinburgh Fringe debut has drawn plaudits from audiences and critics alike.

In recent years Scott has successfully established himself as one of the best Scottish Comedians of his generation, a title that was cemented when he received the Edinburgh Comedy Awards’ Best Newcomer trophy at the 2016 Edinburgh Fringe. He is also known as Resident MC for BBC Introduces in Scotland, as a host of The Hashtag Show, and has supported some of the biggest names in comedy on their national tours, from Des Clarke and Daniel Sloss, to Kevin Bridges and Frankie Boyle, who describes Scott as a “natural, gifted, and unapologetic storyteller”.

Scott and comedian Richard Gadd made history at the 2016 Edinburgh Comedy Awards when they became the first Scottish winners to scoop both of the main prizes – Best Newcomer and Best Show – in the same year.

Scott Gibson will Life After Death to Soho Theatre from 22 until 27 May 2017

Acclaimed one-man cartoon comedy, Goose returns to Soho Theatre

Following a critically acclaimed total sell-out Edinburgh Fringe season in 2016,  one-man cartoon comedy show, Goose will explode once again onto the Soho Theatre stage later this month.

In 2013 Adam Drake and Ben Rowse joined forces to co-write a one-man farce, Robin, in which Adam also performed under Ben’s direction. The show garnered a host of four and five star reviews and they went on to form Goose in 2014 on which they were co-writers with Adam once again performing under Ben’s direction. The show was a huge success and confirmed Goose as one of the leading lights in the new generation of Comedy protagonists. Kablamo was one of the best reviewed shows at last year’s Fringe and has since run for a sell-out season at the Soho Theatre, an arts centre tour of the UK and has been booked for Latitude.

They recently filmed a taster for Hat Trick and are currently developing scripted projects with both Hat Trick and Tiger Aspect.

Goose will be perfuming at Soho Theatre from 16 – 20th May

Improvised crossover cabaret, Boris and Sergey’s Astonishing Freakatorium, comes to Wilton’s Music Hall

Wilton’s Music Hall is preparing for a rather interesting new show later this month, as master puppeteer Henry Maynard brings his new adult show to the east London venue.

Best known for creating the spectacular puppets used in the National Theatre production of War Horse, Henry Maynard has collaborated with a highly skilled team of expert puppeteers, who have been working together in sweaty and physically compromising conditions since 2010. Boris and Sergey’s Astonishing Freakatorium is an improvised crossover cabaret featuring tabletop puppetry and character comedy for discerningly twisted adult audiences.

Following sell out runs at the Edinburgh and Adelaide Fringes and gathering three awards, 10 five star reviews (and counting), puppetry’s Balkan bad boys Boris & Sergey; simply the greatest vaudevillian double act ever conceived for the small stage, are back in London with freak show cabaret like no other.

Starring a variety of puppet characters, Boris & Sergey follow the tragic story of Pierre le Petit Tête Gustav and his wildly deranged tap dancing companion Juan Tamino. Audiences must hold on to their hats as they delve into a titillation filled world of the macabre. Boris & Sergey recreate traditional scenes of geeking, feats of incredible fortitude, endeavours of unimaginable physical endurance with formidable artistry, all whilst beguiling with their roughish wit and erudite jocularity.

Boris faces El Pollo Diablo (or ‘Betsy’, as he likes to call her) in a live onstage cock fight; and there is ample opportunity for audience interaction, improvisation and comedy banter between the two brothers in ‘super spooky storytime’.

Performed by the man behind puppetry’s Balkan bad boys Amused Moose Finalist, Henry Maynard presents a one man show featuring puppetry, physical comedy, and mime where audiences are invited to join our hero for a silent expedition as they witness one man’s quest for a friend.

Boris & Sergey’s Astonishing Freakatorium will be at Wilton’s Music Hall from 9 – 13 May

The Black Cat Cabaret set to take Underbelly Festival by storm this summer

Parisian-inspired cabaret spectacular, The Black Cat Cabaret, has announced an exciting new summer season at Underbelly Festival, taking place from Friday 20th May until the end of September at London’s Southbank.

London’s favourite purrrveyors of dark and daring cabaret entertainment return with a spectacular show, breathing new life into the decadent world of vintage Montmartre.

Upon entering the glorious, mirrored surroundings of the Underbelly spiegeltent, guests can expect to encounter at close quarters a merry band of high-kicking showgirls, jaw-dropping acrobats, comic street singers, a fire-breathing siren and daredevil aerialists – all bound together with a belle epoque sense of giddy abandonment.

The Black Cat has made a name for itself as the place to experience modern cabaret in all of its wondrous forms – from the sacred to the profane, the lyrical to the downright louche. Returning to the Southbank for a 4th summer season, these shows take place in a stunning setting that combines theatre-style seating with the thrill of the big top. The 2017 summer run will feature Black Cat Cabaret’s original, “after-hours Montmartre” show, which is returning for the first time since 2014.

Inspired by the heyday of Parisian cabaret culture, yet with a timeless quality all of its own, the show is a veritable who’s who of the London scene. Step over the threshold and encounter absinthe-addled artistes, flame-haired courtesans and bittersweet comic chanteuses, all presided over by The Black Cat’s “compère beyond compare” Dusty Limits. The BCC’s trademark combination of cabaret and comic acts with high skills circus, original music and choreography makes it a night out like no other.

Having appeared at many of London’s most revered night spots, from Café de Paris and Hotel Café Royal, to the former Pigalle Club in salubrious St James’, the past year has seen The Black Cat Cabaret go from strength to strength. While taking over the iconic Hippodrome Casino for a couple of sell-out dates this Spring, Black Cat Cabaret is also making regular appearances at Zédel with an intimate, opulent “Salon des Artistes” dinner & show. With these ongoing residencies as well as the new season at Southbank, Black Cat Cabaret is the perfect choice for a thrilling night out this summer.

Confirmed dates at Underbelly Festival includeSaturday 20th May – 21:15 Friday 2nd June – 21:30 Saturday 8th July – 21:15 Saturday 5th August – 21:15 Friday 22nd Sept – 21:30

Win tickets to see Erich McElroy and Friends ‘celebrate’ 100 Days of Trump

Join comedians Erich McElroy, Ian Stone, Nick Revell and Viv Groskop, and Republican commentator Charlie Wolf, for an evening of comedy and chat that looks back on the first 100 years, sorry, days of President Donald J Trump.

A lot has happened since inauguration day. Trump has created jobs (though mostly for his children); he has ended ‘climate change’, well, not really ended it, just stopped US Department of Energy from mentioning it, and, to top it all off, he’s almost started World War III – something Obama never managed to do.

Meanwhile, after 100 days, some things have stayed the same: that darn WALL isn’t built, ISIS hasn’t been defeated and Obamacare hasn’t stopped caring.

One thing Trump has definitely achieved is to become the least popular president in the shortest amount of time ever.

Well, he always said he was a WINNER!

We have a pair of tickets to give away for the show on the 27th April. For a chance to win simple  retweet and follow us on Twitter or like and share on Facebook. Terms and conditions apply

Erich McElroy has been in demand as a comedian and as a pundit, and has written for The Independent, The Herald, The Huffington Post and Saga. Erich’s broadcasting credits include BBC News, BBC Breakfast, Good Morning Britain, Newsnight, BBC Radio 5 live, TalkRadio, Sky Sunrise, Murnaghan, STV and SomeNews Live on Fubar Radio.

Ian Stone is the star of the brand new My5 topical show ‘Comedy Bigmouths’, Ian is ranked amongst the top ten stand-ups in Britain by The Independent.

Viv Groskop is a writer, critic, broadcaster and stand-up. She regularly writes for the Guardian and has featured on BBC Radio 2 and BBC Radio 4’s ‘Loose Ends’.

Nick Revell is an award-winning writer and comedian, a former winner of the Perrier Award and a co-creator (with comedian Alistair Barrie and journalist and LBC presenter James O’Brien) of the topical panel show No Pressure to be Funny.

Charlie is a regular fixture on UK television and radio; a respected broadcaster and commentator, providing informed and opinionated analysis on American and UK issues.

Liza Pulman brings new show ‘Liza Sings Streisand’ to Live at Zedel

Liza Pulman, the acclaimed singer & comedienne and one third of the satirical and much loved comedy trio Fascinating Aida, returns in 2017 with her third solo show Liza Sings Streisand .

This is no Stars in Their Eyes, nor a Channel 5 biopic, this is sexy, sassy Liza weaving together history, humour and harmony as she celebrates the songs of the great Barbra Streisand with her six piece band, The Stardust Ensemble.

The tour kicks off on May 3, closely following Barbra Streisand’s 75th Birthday on April 24, making this the perfect time to spend a night out with Liza enjoying Streisand’s greatest musical numbers.

Showbiz is in Liza’s blood. Her performance dreams started young, just like Streisand’s. As the daughter of screenwriter Jack Pulman ( I, ClaudiusWar and Peace) and actress Barbara Young ( Coronation StreetFamily AffairsLast of the Summer Wine,) Liza’s parents immersed her in a world of film, scripts, acting and music at a young age, which set her up perfectly for a career on the stage. Her mother once met Streisand, and it is stories like this that Liza weaves between songs, bringing not just her exceptional voice, but her storytelling and her own personal slant on Streisand’s life and music to the stage.

Featuring all the greatest Streisand hits from Evergreen to The Way We Were , and the much-loved Funny Girl, numbers Don’t Rain On My Parade , Second Hand Rose and many more, Liza Sings Streisand brings glorious new arrangements and orchestrations of Streisand’s legendary music, alongside renowned musical director and Liza’s long-time collaborator Joseph Atkins. You can see Liza performing Evergreen Here , in her Songs of Hollywood show.

Liza said, “Barbra Streisand is a legend, her talent across singing, directing and screenwriting, and her rhythm as a natural comedian have all inspired me both on and off stage. I absolutely love putting the show programmes together. I love creating new arrangements of songs that people know really well and also introducing the audience to songs they might not already know. Working with my band to bring together the best of Barbra Streisand’s songs has been a real treat and we can’t wait to share this with you!”

Liza Sings Streisand will be at Crazy Coqs – LIVE AT ZEDEL, LONDON
Monday 8 May, 7:00pm
Monday 22 May 7:00pm and Monday 12 June, 7:00pm
